The flavors of Indian cuisine have always intrigued me, so aromatic and complex. We finally managed to get a reservation at this popular uptown establishment, opened in August 2017 by the Vilkhu Family. When one thinks of New Orleans cuisine, Indian cuisine may not be the first to come to mind, but I highly advise you to put this one on your bucket list. The menu is a fabulous mix of authentic Indian selections and New Orleans-inspired dishes. The color hues of the restaurant are so warm and inviting, resembling the colorful spices so abundantly used in Indian cuisine. Saffron Nola is well-known for the sophistication and uniqueness of its cocktail selections. The Saffron NOLA Old Fashioned is, by far, one of the smoothest I’ve been blessed to consume. The food is impeccable; so flavorful, well-portioned, and beautifully plated. Recommended menu selections include: Oyster Bed Roast (I recommend ordering a half dozen, as the parmesan cheese brings quite a richness to the dish), Roti Sathi (bread companions)-Eggplant Hyderabad, Channa Daal, and the Raita, which pair well with the Goat Masala and the Khyber Lamb Chops. “The Kiss from a Rose” dessert selection is an interestingly delicious combination of saffron cardamom ice cream, rose syrup, pistachios, and vermicelli. I believe the success of this restaurant is directly tied to the day to day involvement of the owners. Their presence is felt throughout your experience! The staff is well-versed in the specifics of the menu selections and well attentive to your needs. The next time you’re in the mood for something a little different from the typical New Orleans fare, please give this place a try. Dress is business casual. Reservations are highly recommended.
