Situated in the Royal Sonesta Hotel, Desire Oyster Bar is located on the corner of Bourbon St and Bienville St. It offers its guests flavorful Creole and Cajun eats in a casual, relaxed setting in the heart of the French Quarter. Take a seat at the raw bar for delicious shucked raw or chargrilled oysters or at one of the tables in their beautifully redesigned (2015) dining room.
Judge and I often pop into this establishment while strolling around the French Quarter. I am a self-proclaimed roast beef po’ boy addict! This is one of my favorite roast beef po’boys in the city. The Hot Roast Beef and Gravy Po’boy is perfectly displayed on a plate, with the debris (morsels of beef that fall, as it’s roasting, to the bottom of the pan) gravy placed on the side in a ramekin. This allows for the diner to pour the gravy over the sandwich just prior to consuming it, which prevents the bread from becoming too soggy. It’s traditionally a very messy sandwich, calling for the availability of numerous napkins!! In addition to the delicious roast beef po’ boy, they offer an array of other dishes. In particular, the cornmeal-battered shrimp and oysters (offered on a po’boy/platter/atop a salad) are generous in size and perfectly fried to a gentle crisp.
